On Saturday, professional wrestlers Bobby Roode and Eric Young announced via Twitter that they were leaving TNA Impact Wrestling and hitting the free agent market together.
Both Roode and Young spent the last 12 years working for TNA, climbing the ranks and reaching world heavyweight champion status. Now, the two men who originally signed on the same day will become free agents at the same time.
With Roode and Young looking to the next challenge, WWE should sign the veterans.
For Roode, he is already 39 years old, but he is also one of the greatest talents in Impact Wrestling history. With a brawling style and a cerebral approach to the business, Roode has remained healthy for most of his career and is still in great shape.
After spending so many years in the business, Roode has perfected his in-ring style and should have no problem making the transition to another company. Add in his ability to cut quality promos on a consistent basis, and Roode would be an asset to WWE on the NXT level like former co-worker Samoa Joe or on the main roster like another former co-worker, AJ Styles.
Overall, Roode is one of the most underrated all-around talents in the wrestling business over the last decade. With the experience he has in the business, he would likely be driven to not only make an opportunity with WWE work, but cement his legacy in history.
On the other hand, 36-year-old Young is an incredibly unique talent. While he doesn’t look like the traditional WWE Superstar and he doesn’t sound like the quintessential babyface, he has an incredible amount of experience from almost every point of view. From the top of the card as the world champion to the bottom of the card as a joke character, Young has taken everything the company could throw at him and knocked it out of the park.
As a consummate professional, the NXT brand would unquestionably be better with the addition of Young. Whether he is working in the ring to help younger talents get more seasoning or he is brought in as a trainer, the possibility of signing a man who spent the last 12 years working at such a high level should be a no-brainer for WWE.
With both Roode and Young on the open market, WWE must at least bring the two veterans in on a temporary basis like the company did before with James Storm. The experience, talent and charisma between each of these Superstars would make them great additions to WWE.
